The inaugural Surf Naked surf Classic presented by Island Tribe was held at Coffee bay today, contested in 6-8 foot clean barrels and (thankfully) extremely warm water and perfect summer sunshine. The barrels were wide, the ladies on the beach served cold beer to the competitors and style was the ultimate criteria for taking out the winners prize of a R500 bar tab at the Buffalo bar.wout tobile sebastian maritz john frans iain(1) ethan brendan2OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

South Africa’s Jordy Smith, 23, has taken out the 2011 Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay in a hard-fought final over Mick Fanning from Australia, 30, in front of the raucous and hardy hometown crowd on the beach and hundreds of thousands watching online.

Event No 4 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Billabong Pro culminated in dramatic fashion on Sunday with “victory at sea”, three-to-four foot (1 – 1.5 metre) surf and the world’s best surfers displayed their comprehensive abilities to shred anything from Saturday’s perfection to Sunday’s challenging conditions.

Showdown at Supertubes is over for 2011, and it was Shaun Payne who overcame his
older brother Ryan in the final, in the process ending his sibling’s hopes of claiming a hat-trick of titles
in the event.

Squaring off in the final, Shaun managed to find the higher scores in the dying swell to snatch victory
and the first prize of R10 000 cash, a styling PU 51-30 Nixon watch and perhaps most importantly, a
coveted slot into the Von Zipper Superheat – which affords the winner a wildcard into the Billabong Pro J-Bay Dream Tour event scheduled for next month.

New Pier, Durban – Beyrick de Vries (Umhlanga) put on an unbelievable display of surfing today to beat an on-form Slade Pretwich (Scottburgh) to win the Quiksilver Pro Junior 2011 presented by the City of Durban. De Vries pulled off a series of innovative aerial maneuvers early on in the 25 minute man-on-man final to win with a heat total of 15.67 points out of a possible 20. De Vries dispatched of Matt Pallet and Michael February both of Cape Town earlier on in the day and walked away with R18 000 in prize money for his efforts.

ISLAND TRIBE sun protection had our first annual fun day with the Umthombo Street Children at Durban’s  New Pier on Friday the 5th of November 2010. We thought we would kick off summer in a different way this year, by giving the underprivileged street children a day to remember.
A huge thank you to our sponsors who made the event possible by donating things, and made the day extra special for all the children. It was so heart warming to see the children having so much fun.
