Keeping your little ones protected from
the suns’ harmful rays
Children should not be getting sunburn at any age (nor should adults for that matter but that’s a story for another blog). Parents should be fanatical about sun protection for kids especially infants & toddlers. Just one blistering sunburn in childhood or adolescence more than doubles a person’s chances of developing melanoma later on life6.
Here a few sun protection best practices if your child is an infant under 6 months. Your baby should be kept out of the sun, period. Especially during high risk times between 10h00 & 15h00. Applying sunscreen on infants under the age of 6 months is not recommended & should be avoided. Should you have to take your infant out in the sun make sure they are wearing a hat with a brim & protective clothing, but ideally babies should be kept in the shade as much as possible6.
If your infant is 6 months or older then liberal amounts of an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen should be applied at least 30 minutes before being exposed to direct sunlight. Island Tribe’s Kids range is specially formulated in SPF 50 to ensure maximum protection. Again, time spent being directly exposed to sunlight should be limited where possible between 10h00 — 15h006.
As infants become toddlers & pre-schoolers they will become more active & want more time outside. Whether playing outside at home or school or spending time under the sun while on holiday at the beach. Island Tribe’s SPF 50 Kids range offer a light feeling invisible spray & light lotion. It is important to remember that even though Island Tribe’s Kids range is formulated for high protection with a 4-hour water resistance, sunscreen must be re-applied every 40 to 80 minutest, and after swimming or sweating.
Island Tribe’s Kids Clear Gel Sun Stick is super easy to carry in either mom’s handbag or your beach bag & should be an essential in either if you’re little ones are active & outdoor busy bodies.
Ensure your kids can be everyday adventurers for their whole lifetime.
